Notes: I am running on the stairs with scissors here, y'all, and just making shit up. I'm also using MY favorite versions of the characters for this series, so if something strikes you as, 'huh… that's not how they act in IDW', you're probably right and I did it on purpose. Have fun! I sure am. ^_^

To help those unfamiliar with Ark: Survival Ascended, it's a survival based game that's been around since 2017 (as Evolved and updated to Ascended, and I play it on Steam). The premise is that you are a copied consciousness sent down to an ark (map locations covered in a dome in space) into a cloned human body with various dinosaurs and other creatures. You try to stay alive, tame dinos to help you do so, and explore caves to get artifacts to help you access the Big Bads, so you can kill them and 'ascend' off the ark and go to the next map.

I love the game, and I love my dinos, and while I'm not clinging to the video game mechanics (as that doesn't really work in fic form here), there will definitely be some hand-waving and a lack of details for the sake of making funny stories without trying to translate it all from game format to fic format. Just… don't expect too much here. I'm barely taking this seriously.

Finally: This is not Crackalackalicious, but we do like some of those character designs, so if you're familiar with the Twin's art for Cracka, picture that here if you like.

Title: Mission: Halloween at the Ark

Summary: Breakdown's infiltrating the Autobots for Halloween. Things, of course, do not go to plan.

Notes: This was originally an RP between LadyDragon76 and Masqueadrift. I (LD) thought this file was long lost, but when I found it I squeed at Masq and we decided that yes, we do need to turn it into a fic. It's been edited into a single POV per scene (mostly Breakdown's) for readability.

That said, please be aware that this fic is one big Consent Issue. None of these characters would have agreed to sex with Breakdown if they'd known it was him, and Breakdown wouldn't have maintained the deception and gone through with the sex if he didn't believe it would get him very immediately killed. If that, and the fact that it's very much played for laughs and the kink of it in this fic, is something you would find upsetting, then do please take care of yourself and skip this one. We don't want to give anyone a bad day.

I received this comment on my fic this morning. It's so obviously a scam/phishing attempt, and when I showed others I'm in a discord server with, a number of them mentioned having received similar messages on dA, ffnet, etc... I have the VAGUEST memory of something like this going around before? Like if you respond, they'll ask for money? Or the author writes the collab fic and never gets the art, so basically you did a free request for them? I'm not sure, but, FYI to everyone.

My fics are locked on Ao3 so they made an account (this one on sept 16th 2024) and eventually found me. I'm sure they're after others, hence this post. I've reported them to Ao3 for solicitation and blocked them.

I'm generally open to collab fun, but a form letter and not so much as a kudos on the fic they're posting the comment to is SO sus. Be careful out there.

To add: I sent this to Ao3 as Pipermca suggested in their tumblr post, I'm not just posting it here and crossing my fingers they see it. I'm posting it publicly to raise awareness about the issue and add my voice and plea that they not chop up my fandom and make it even harder to find people and their wonderful, creative works.

So I posted this to Pillowfort a couple days ago, and it was mostly in response to just one person asking about other spaces, but the post is by far the most reblogged and liked post I've ever made on PF, so... Yeah, I should probably post about it here too for anyone who might see it.

There ARE independently run (as in owned and operated by a single human person) fanfic sites using Ao3's opensource code. My personal goal, once I can afford to do it, is to build one of these for the Transformers fandom.

Ao3, right now, has some better board members than they did in the past and I've heard good things through the grape vine, but, well, it's still a mess from who some of those decent people replaced, and it's big enough to be a slow-turning wheel as well as being short-staffed enough to cause issues too. I've been told some definitely support decentralizing fandom too. I mean, think about it. I'f you're a fic writer, where can you go? Ao3. It's the ONLY place. Twitter/X/wtfever it's called, is no good anyhow, much less for posting fics. Tumblr? pff. Ffn? How many times have they fucked over the fanbase for the sake of ultra-conservative "Christians"? Here on DW? I mean, yeah, this is actually a pretty decent site, but who's even here? I'm fairly certain I'm babbling into the void right now. Pillowfort? I don't hate it at all, but they need pagination to be any kind of useful and every month they're begging for more money to keep the lights on for a few more months. I like the site and I like what they are doing, but can we trust it to be longterm?

So we, fan authors, have Ao3. The good news is, we now also have:

SquidgeWorld - This is a multifandom site. This was the pioneer, y'all. The owner of the site worked out Ao3's (from what I have heard lol) wonky code, and he was generous and amazing in assisting others in building their sites.

AdAstra is a Star Trek (and crossover with Star Trek) specific site. Lots of fun! There are events in their discord weekly, and to encourage community engagement.

CFAArchive - which stands for Comic Fanfiction Author's Archive and is specific to any fanworks based of comic books.

Superlove - Also appears to be a multifandom site. I know that Melo, the owner/operator, has been very helpful networking and assisting with the other sites' owners too, and has a strong focus on building community over simply archiving.

Honestly, a group of really amazing, kind people who love fandom and fanworks. Please do check out their sites, read their rules, read their About pages, peruse the works posted there, and see if any of these would fit as additional homes for your works and you. But please keep in mind that these sites are NOT Ao3. They were build and are being paid to maintain by ONE PERSON. Their rules are stricter to protect them legally. They have EVERY right to banhammer you for breaking the TOS or just being an asshole who causes them unnecessary stress. NONE of them would just be a dick to be a dick, like I said, these are good folks who CARE about fandom, but also, those sites are THEIR houses. They're trying to build COMMUNITY like we once had, not just be archives to dump fic.

Notes: I wrote this ages ago and didn't post it then because the tone is so different from all the other fics in the series. Then I thought I lost the file for good when my external hard drive died. Turns out, the Twin still had it! The tone IS a shift, but finding it and rereading, I just really like it and that it fills a gap that just couldn't really be addressed in the other fics. I have no idea who or what prompted this, but I have a vague memory of someone mentioning they'd like to see Thundercracker giving Starscream a very much owed apology. If that was you, thank you and here ya go! Finally. ^_^

It's been a LONG time since I've done one of these, so here we go!

Life's been good but busy in the RL, and I'd fallen out of the habit of sitting down and writing, so now, I'm making time EVERY day, even if it's only 15 minutes to open a doc and write or edit SOMETHING. ^_^ I'm not sure HOW active I'll be on social media (here, PillowFort) because it's been good for my mental health to be away from the drama, but we'll see. I check on Macc's every few weeks (more of late since I got the puter back), and everyone (hopefully) knows that if there are issues in the comm they can reach out. Most of my accomplishments this year were offline. We bought the hoarded, abandoned property right next to ours last spring in the hopes of building a garage, knowing full well it was going to be A Project. Our combined yard now has a nice, new and pretty fence around it (thanks, Twin!), the property has been emptied of the hoard and the creatures living in it for the last twelve or so years, and the -definitely not built to code or with permits- building itself is currently set up for our volunteer fire department to use for training. Once they're done, we'll finish tearing it down and finally build the garage after leveling the yard. We removed FOUR tractor trailer hauls of SHIT from that lot!
